Lost David Bowie album ‘Toy’ set for official release

If you’re part of the late legend David Bowie’s fan club, you are probably already well-aware of the unreleased 2001 album Toy. Well, dreams are coming true because the record is finally getting an official release.

A tweet announcing the project read: “Depending where you are on the planet, if it’s 29th September you might be streaming the radio edit of ‘You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving’ from the forthcoming Toy album, via your favourite streaming service. More details regarding that and the rest of the Era Five box, later today.”

More about Toy

The abandoned LP produced by Mark Plati (The Cure, LouReed) was originally meant to come out 20 years ago but a disagreement with his former label Virgin got in the way. In 2011, parts of the album leaked including new songs “Uncle Floyd”, “Afraid” and the title track. Versions of “Baby Loves That Way”, “I Dig Everything”, “Conversation Piece”, “Let Me Sleep Beside You” and “Silly Boy Blue” were also leaked. Now, fans will finally get their first official listen.

According to the release, Toy will be included in the Era Five box set. It’s the follow-up to 2018’s Era 4: Loving the Alien (1983-1988), and is slated to cover the years 1993 to 2001.

The announcement arrived with the release of single “You’ve Got A Habit of Leaving”. It was first recorded in 1965 and shared as a single under the name Davy Jones, with his band at the time, The Lower Third. The track is laid-back with soft guitar riffs, piano melodies, and some good old “ooh-wah-oohs”.
