Lowell Concert Review

Lowell is a Toronto local with an impressive resume. She was in the music program at The University of Toronto until she dropped out to focus entirely on her music career. She went to Europe to record an EP with Martin Terefe who is a Grammy Award-winning producer and a part of the supergroup Apparatjik with Guy Barryman from Coldplay, Magne Furuholmen from A-ha, and Jonas Bjerre of Mew.

Apparatjik had a project going called “Everybody Is One Bar Project” where fans and other artists would re-work their songs to hopefully earn a spot on their second record. Terefe asked Lowell to write a song for that project and later the whole band helped her record her EP in four days. It was released back in 2012.

She played The Drake Underground last night and it was packed. The venue has about a hundred disco balls fitting her music perfectly. Her heavy synth-driven three piece band plays her fresh energy and the songs are ambient but intense and dancey. I have no doubt she has a bright future in the music industry so take full advantage of the next opportunity to take in one of her shows.
