Lucy Dacus’ video for her new single ‘Kissing Lessons’ comes packed with hand-drawn hearts and polaroids

Lucy Dacus is back with a video for her new single, “Kissing Lessons.”

Today’s release was recorded at the same time as her beloved 2021 album, Home Video. The song is about a childhood crush in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Lyrically, Dacus delivers lines like, “Rachel’s family moved out of town/ I don’t remember when we stopped hanging out/ But I still wear a letter R charm on my bracelet/ And wonder if she still thinks of me as her first kiss.”

The accompanying video is directed by Mara Palena. It comes packed with hand-drawn hearts and polaroids, as a young girl plays around and dances in her room.

Back in November, Lucy Dacus released a reworked version of “Thumbs” called “Thumbs Again.” Prior to the release of Home Video, Lucy Dacus debuted “Thumbs” on tour with boygenius. The song quickly became a fan favourite. While the album version finds power in its sparsity, today Dacus has shared a full-band version. “Thumbs Again” is filled out with electric guitar, synths, and drums. “Thumbs Again” is how Dacus has been performing “Thumbs” on tour. While it’s quite different from the original, it stays true to the heartbreaking lyrics. The instrumentals add a new dimension to the track that you’ve got to check out.

“Kissing Lesson” will be released on a 7-inch with “Thumbs Again.” You can pre-order the 7-inch here.

Lucy Dacus’ 2021 album, Home Video, is definitely a must-listen. Overall, the record is inspired by Dacus’ coming-of-age in Richmond, Virginia. Taking on the format of a memoir, Dacus offers snapshots of specific moments of her growing up, as she was learning about the complexity of emotions and relationships.
