Lykke Li has shared a video for another new single, “Highway To Your Heart.”
The release comes from her forthcoming album, EYEYE, out May 20th via Play It Again Sam/Crush Music. “Highway To Your Heart” is all about a romantic breakup, as Li sings of longing to get back together with someone. Throughout the song, Li sings of loneliness, delivering lines like, “Get high, but it won’t last, I’m still alone.”

The stunning tune hones in on a pretty big, lush sound, with layered organs and vocal lines. Directed by Theo Lindguist on 16 mm film, the accompanying video stars Li alongside actor Jeff Wilbusch (Oslo, Unorthodox). Lindguist describes each of the EYEYE videos as “visual loops,” and in the loop for this new tune, Li and Wilbusch are in the aftermath of a car accident.

“We wanted to capture the beauty and grandeur of a three-hour European arthouse movie, while making something native to modern media,” Li explains of the videos. “The intention is to deliver the full impact of a movie in sixty seconds on a phone screen, which is where most of our emotional experiences happen now anyway.”
In addition to “Highway To Your Heart,” EYEYE features the previously released “No Hotel.”
EYEYE serves as the follow-up to 2018’s So Sad So Sexy, but it sees Lykke Li channeling a pretty different sound. On the forthcoming album, she stripped things back heavily.
Recorded with Peter, Björn & John’s Björn Yttling, the album features “no click-tracks, no headphones, and no digital instruments,” according to a release. “The vocals were recorded on a handheld $70 [£53] drum mic, often in the moment of composition, giving the lyrics the still-beating sound of fresh heartbreak being whispered into your ear.”
