Man gets stuck in streetcar tunnel ‘following GPS’

A 21-year-old man drove his SUV into a streetcar tunnel and caused service delays this morning for TTC passengers.

At around 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a man made a wrong turn into the streetcar tunnel entrance at Queens Quay, and made it all the way to Union station where his car got stuck. The vehicle blew two tires.

The young man left his car to find some help, and returned to the scene where police already had an investigation underway.

The 21-year-old told police that he was “following his GPS” and ended up in the tunnels that are intended for streetcars only.

Not facing any criminal charges at this point, the man was fined $425 by TTC for illegal entry.

The car was lifted out of the tunnel by a crane, and TTC service at Union station resumed at around 11 a.m.

Although there are many signs outside the tunnel indicating that entrance is forbidden, this isn’t the first time cars have driven into the tunnels and gotten stuck, and also not the first time GPS has screwed people over.
