Map Shows Population Density Near Toronto Subway Stops

How many people live near your stop?

A Toronto Redditor put together a map that shows the population sizes of people living near TTC subway stations.

The map shows the population size per thousands who live within a half-mile, an approximate walking distance (before another form of transit is involved, like streetcar or bus.)

While city hall is debating the proposed Scarborough Subway extension, there has been a renewed interest in the numbers related to TTC commuters. Taxpayers are concerned at the ballooning cost of the project, currently sitting at $3.93 billion, up from $2 billion in 2016.

However, the maker of this map wrote on Reddit, they are “not trying to make an argument, just show the map and people can think of the reasons behind the patterns.”
