The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards were Sunday, and the award show was full of OJ Simpson jabs, Donald Trump bashing and Bill Cosby jokes. You know, the usual.
This year, ratings dropped to a record breaking low, with every moment coming with a side of award-collar-tug.
After losing the Emmy Award for outstanding variety talk series to HBO’s “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” Jimmy Kimmel had an awkward run in with long-time nemesis, Matt Damon. The Bourne star casually took the stage, munching an apple, and said, “I missed the last category ― did you win?” Ouch.
Ben Affleck’s bestie then went on to taught the host more,
“So you don’t get a trophy then?
I’m sorry. This is so humiliating. You lost and you’ve got to stand out here for the rest of the evening when you probably just want to go home and cry.”
This was Kimmel’s second go at hosting television’s biggest night, after first hosting the telecast four years ago. Too bad Damon totally won this round of awkward award show banter. If you want to know the dirty deets behind the fued, TIME has very kindly laid down the long, and very drawn out timeline for the world to see.
