Metallica, Rosalía, SZA, more to play 2022 Global Citizen Festival

Metallica, Rosalía, SZA, and more are set to play this year’s Global Citizen Festival on September 24th.

This year marks the 10th anniversary editions of the festival. The Global Citizen Festival has officially announced the stacked lineup, which will feature sets from Metallica, Rosalía, Jonas Brothers, Charlie Puth, MÅNESKIN, and Mickey Guyton. That portion of the festival will take place in New York’s Central Park, and it’ll be hosted by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

On the same day, Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana will host a show in celebration of “the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union.” That show will feature performances from SZA, H.E.R., Usher, Stormzy, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and TEMS.

“The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will call on world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 in November to step up and invest $600 million into the future of women and girls, close the annual $10 billion climate financing shortfall, deliver $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis, and provide urgent relief from crushing debts to End Extreme Poverty NOW.”

Both of the Global Citizen Festival shows will livestream across a whole slew of platforms, including online on Twitter and YouTube. The event urges viewers to donate to anti-poverty causes via links at the Global Citizen website.

Tickets to the performances are earned by downloading the Global Citizen app and earning points. The way you earn points is by “taking action NOW – for girls, for the planet, and to end poverty.”
