METZ’s Alex Edkins shares new track as Weird Nightmare ‘Searching for You,’ announces solo album

METZ frontman Alex Edkins has announced a solo self-titled album under the moniker Weird Nightmare, which is out on May 20th via Sub Pop. In celebration of the announcement, Edkins has shared an animated video for his new single, “Searching For You.”

“Searching For You” is a blistering fuzzed out rocker. Alongside the track, Edkins has shared a psychedelic animated video from director Ryan Thompson. The clip follows a character trying to deliver a pizza to a pizza monster.

“It’s a fun, no nonsense rock ‘n’ roll song,” Edkins explains of the new Weird Nightmare track. “It’s about searching for meaning and inspiration all around us. In my mind, the ‘you’ in the chorus refers to something bigger than companionship or love; it’s that intangible thing we all look for but never find.”

Watch the video for “Searching for You” below.

Most of the forthcoming album was recorded during the pandemic.

“Hooks and melody have always been a big part of my writing, but they really became the main focus this time,” Weird Nightmare explains. “I had always planned on finishing these songs, but being unable to tour with METZ, and forced to lock down, really gave me a push.”
