Yes, that’s right. Michael Cera, actor and, occasionally, musician, has a released a new song for the upcoming documentary Dina. The track is called “Best I Can,” and features vocals from Sharon Van Etten.
If you want a hint as to what the song might sound like, Cera produced the song as a placeholder in case the film’s directors, Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini, were unable to get the rights to “Only You” by Yaz. Since the Yaz track was a go, the directors didn’t want to let Cera’s time and effort go to waste, so they decided to put “Best I Can” in the credits of the film. On top of that, they even directed a music video for the song. Michael asked Van Etten to do the vocals after meeting by chance a while back at a bar.
When asked about his music career in an interview with Pitchfork, Cera said, “In fairness, I would say it’s just a hobby.” But who knows? Maybe Michael Cera could be living up to his role in Scott Pilgrim vs The World and have a break-out music career.
