Season 5 Black Mirror episode, “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” features pop renditions of Nine Inch Nails hits, such as “Head like a Hole.”
The episode tells the story of a teen girl who has become obsessed with a robot doll based on her pop star idol, played by Miley Cyrus. The series creator Charlie Brooker approached Trent Reznor about recreating Nine Inch Nails lyrics in a fun, chirpy way, and Reznor happily approved. In the first song, Miley sings “I’m stoked on ambition and verve,” as opposed to the original lyrics, “You’re gonna get what you deserve,” from Head like a Hole. The full chorus goes “Hey there, whoah-ho, I’m on a roll / Riding so high, achieving my goals / I’m so stoked on ambition and verve / I’m gonna get what I deserve.”
