Montreal officially names itself a heavy metal ‘city of excellence’

"It's an immense thrill to be able to talk about this art form that I love so dearly"

Montreal’s city council has unanimously adopted a declaration that names Montreal a “city of excellence” for heavy metal, according to the Montreal Gazette.

The declaration had originally been proposed by councillor Craig Sauvé, who highlighted notable Quebec-based metal bands like the Agonist, Cryptopsy, Despised Icon, Kataklysm, Necrotic Mutation, and Slaves on Dope. “It’s an immense thrill to be able to talk about this art form that I love so dearly,” Sauvé explained after the council adopted the declaration.
