Multiple People Injured After Van Strikes Pedestrians in North Toronto

Suspect in custody, police have not commented on motive or cause of the incident

Early reports indicate approximately 8-10 people were struck by a vehicle near Yonge and Finch, as police say that a white van mounted the curb and hit several people walking along the sidewalk.

The driver of the van is now in custody. Police have not commented on any motive or what may have led to the incident at this time.

The incident took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. over roughly two kilometeres on Yonge Street from Finch to Sheppard Avenue. Subway service between Sheppard and Finch stations on Line 1 has been temporarily suspended due to the police investigation.

Toronto police have confirmed nine people have died as a result of the incident, with another 16 injured.
