MUNA covers Britney Spears’ ‘Sometimes’ for ‘Fire Island’

MUNA have shared a cover of Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time hit “Sometimes.”

MUNA’s cover of “Sometimes” is a club-ready anthem. With a syncopated beat, pulsing synths, and dreamy vocal lines, this track is sure to get you dancing. The cover comes from the forthcoming soundtrack to Fire Island, which is a rom-com starring Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, Conrad Ricamora, and Margaret Cho.

Fire Island is an “unapologetic, modern-day rom-com inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice. The story centers around two best friends who set out to have a legendary week-long summer vacation with the help of cheap rosé and a cadre of eclectic friends.”

MUNA’s forthcoming self-titled album is set for release on June 24th via Saddest Factory. The forthcoming album is set to see trio Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin moving toward a lighter sound.

“What ultimately keeps us together is knowing that someone’s going to hear each one of these songs and use it to make a change they need in their life,” Maskin explains. “That people are going to feel a kind of catharsis, even it its’ a catharsis that I might never have known myself, because I’m fucked up.”

While their cover of “Sometimes” doesn’t appear on the album, previously released singles “Home By Now,” “Kind of Girl,” “Anything But Me,” and “Silk Chiffon” do.

“I hope this album helps people connect to each other the way that we, in MUNA, have learned to connect to each other,” McPherson says.
