On January 28th, members from every corner of the music industry gathered to celebrate each others work at the Grammys. In the Best Alternative Album category, remarkable groups such as LCD Soundsystem (American Dream), Gorillaz (Humanz), Arcade Fire (Everything Now), Father John Misty (Pure Comedy) and The National (Sleep Well Beast) were all nominated.
On the night of, members of The National were working on music in Long Pond upstate for their new record – the place which they worked on ‘Sleep Well Beast’. According to the band, there was no aim nor expectation to win a Grammy that evening, and so they decided to work on music instead of making their appearance.
“It would have been fun to be there, but it was also fun to be where we made the record. It was just a nice moment sitting by the fire and drinking some wine and talking about it.” said a member of the band in an interview with Pitchfork.
The National’s win for ‘Sleep Well Beast’ awarded them their first Grammy. They are also currently up for Best Album at The VO5 NME Awards 2018 next month.
