Netflix cancels ‘GLOW’ due to COVID-19

Over one year after GLOW was renewed for its fourth and final season, Netflix has reversed the decision and cancelled the series altogether because of COVID-19.

The show, which was based on the 1986 wrestling promotion of the same name (“Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”), told the tale of struggling actress Ruth (Alison Brie) and her ex-best friend Debbie (Betty Gilpin).

The series had been three weeks into filming season four when production was halted in mid-March, according to Deadline. One episode had been completed at the time, and all of the regular cast was paid for the season in full.

“Covid has killed actual humans,” GLOW creators Lis Flahive and Carly Mensch say. “It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. Covid also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW.”
