Marvel’s Iron Fist has come to an abrupt end, as Netflix has officially cancelled the show. It becomes the first Marvel show to face the axe on the streaming service.
It doesn’t necessarily mean the end of Iron Fist. Disney is set to launch its own streaming service, with operations expected to begin in 2019.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Disney and Netflix said in a joint statement to Deadline. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Iron Fist‘s first season was generally poorly received in comparison to other Marvel series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Luke Cage. Many fans were excited by the possibilities presented at the end of season 2, though.
That said, Finn Jones could still reprise the role of Danny Rand/Iron Fist in Netflix’s other Marvel series, including The Defenders.
