For the past seven years, Kashif Jawed, a former management consultant has been helping his close friends and family buy homes as a hobby.
Jawed has now made a career out of saving GTA home buyers from those evil commission payments through his website Urbanic.ca, co-founded by marketing whiz Ali Ahmad.
Potential buyers sign up for the site to receive updates on new properties, but the selling feature is that all negotiations and offers are submitted in their own name. “So basically anything that an agent does, we will do, minus showing them around, which consumed most of an agent’s time,” said Jawed.
Urbanic takes $5,000 from the house sale, and you’ll get the rest instead of forking out the 2.5 percent overall.
“Real estate is one of the markets where no one’s really done anything,” said Jawed. “No disruptions, no changes happening. It’s stayed the same for years now.”
What do you think? Would you use this site, or go with an full-service real estate agent?
