New Cut Copy Single and Album Details

Australian electronic band shares song via geo-location billboard campaign and announces album and tour details

If you couldn’t make it to Detroit, Mexico City, the California Desert, Chile, Australia, or the UK to hear Cut Copy’s new single, they’ve now shared it online along with the album release details. Cut Copy has been experimenting with unconventional ways of releasing tracks this year, starting with the debut of “Let Me Show You” through a limited number of pressed vinyl at Pitchfork Music Festival, and now a geo-location billboard campaign. Cut Copy listed six locations around the world on their website where fans could hear the new title track from the upcoming Free Your Mind. Listeners must have an iPhone or Android and would have to be close to one of the six billboards in:

Mexico City: 19.418546,-99.15799
Chile: -33.451665,-70.880318
Australia: -30.640834,116.008871
UK: 51.763050,-3.159950
Detroit: 42.331225,-83.066366

Free Your Mind rolls out November 5 via Loma Vista / Modular. The 14-track set was recorded in Cut Copy’s hometown of Melbourne and was self-produced by frontman Dan Whitford and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Flaming Lips). According to a press release, the record is influenced by San Francisco’s Summer of Love in 1967 and Britain’s Second Summer of Love in 1988, “The concept of freedom is one that’s universally positive and timeless, and whatever each person’s version of that freedom is, it’s a good thing to be reminding people or even just ourselves to be ‘free.’”
