New Suicide Squad movie gets title and release date, James Gunn set to direct

It's being described as a 'relaunch' instead of a 'sequel'

The title for the forthcoming Suicide Squad movie has been confirmed, and James Gunn is in talks to direct the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be titled The Suicide Squad and it’s set to be considered a “relaunch” instead of a “sequel” under Gunn’s guidance.

The new film might be in the same Suicide Squad universe, but with a different set of villains. Gunn is allegedly aiming to take the franchise in a completely new direction with a new cast of actors and characters. The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6th, 2021.

Gunn was announced as being attached to the project in October 2018, which means it will be the first project since the former Guardians of the Galaxy director was fired by Disney when a series of controversial tweets that Gunn allegedly wrote surfaced online.
