In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Oasis and High Flying Birds frontman had some choice words for Tidal.
Joining basically everyone else in the music industry by sharing some less-than-impressed thoughts about Tidal, Gallagher said: “I think ultimately with the spiel they came out with, it was like, ‘Do these people think they’re the fuckin’ Avengers? They’re going to save the fuckin’ [world].’ I was speaking to Chris [Martin] the day after, and I said, ‘Are you after a Nobel Peace Prize? Is that what you’re after?’ They were like, ‘We’re going to fuckin’ save the music business.’ And I’m just sitting there, thinking [imitates smoking weed] you might want to write a decent chorus for a fuckin’ start. Never mind fuckin’ royalties and the ‘power of music.’ Write a tune. Fuckin’ start with that.”
Gallagher also held an Reddit AMA earlier this week, and some of what he said was — as usual — controversial.
A fan asked him how it feels to be one of the last true rockstars, to which Gallagher confirmed that it feels good and “in fact, that’s what I am.”
The rockstar also shared his disdain for today’s rock n’ roll, saying that “the attitude and the spirit that we had is definitely disappearing.” He added that while it would’t be impossible for a rock band to reach Oasis-level stardom today, he doesn’t see it happening any time soon.
Gallagher declined the possibility of an Oasis reunion, and condemned the band’s third studio album Be Here Now, calling it “shit” — but he’s allowed to say that because he wrote it.
