Not Your Typical First Date Ideas in Toronto

Have some actual fun on your first date

You’re going to have plenty of time to grab drinks once you’re a couple, so why not make that first impression count. For the atypical daters out there, check out this list of unusual date ideas because, even if it doesn’t work out, at least you’ll have some good memories.

Why not put it all on the line on the first date, and show your potential love interest your skills. Confidence is key on first dates, so swallow your pride, get on stage and show that cutie what you’ve got. Sure you might have some cringe worthy moments along the way, it’s still a good way to show off your musical taste and sense of humour.

Have a True Blind Date

Confident that your personalities are a perfect match? Go on a literal blind date and put your conversation to the test while eating dinner in complete darkness at O.Noir. Albeit, if you’re worried that your date might be a catfish, this is not the right place for you.

Let your competitive side out at battle out over a couple games of table tennis at any of Toronto’s ping pong bars. Chivalry won’t get you any bonus points here, so don’t even think about throwing the game; any potential future partner needs to know what they’re getting into.

I can’t think of a better way to put any relationship to the test than by taking a trip to the endless maze that is IKEA. Get lost for 45 minutes to an hour inside the massive showroom of never-ending turns before sharing a plate of Swedish meatballs in their cafeteria. Good for people who like puns and bad for people who are crappy navigators.

Have Your Future Read

Let a complete stranger tell your if there’s a future for you two. Go get your reading done by a psychic and immediate hit up the closest bar to laugh off whatever your apparent destiny is.

Rent a Canoe

In the warmer months, head to the harbourfront and rent out a canoe or tandem kayak for the day. It’ll give you the chance to show off your outdoor adventure prowess, and you get to spend some quality time together.

Take A Cooking Class

There’s little more romantic than a partner who cooks for you, so if you aren’t the best chef at least display that you’re willing to learn. Taking a cooking class is a good way to break down barriers and learn how good your future partner is at following orders.

Solve An Escape Room

Put your minds together and try to find your way out of any of Toronto’s great escape rooms. Bring friends to buffer some of the first-date awkwardness, or put your relationship to the test and go it alone as just the two of you.
