Okay, so we know this is a pretty bold statement and there is no scientific way of measuring what makes the BEST music video, but this is pretty amazing.
Filmed in one shot, “The Writing’s on the Wall” took nearly three weeks to put together. The boys of OK Go had to shoot the video 50 times to get it right. Makes sense though, it’s a series of optical illusion playing with geometry and colour, and filming in one take could not have been easy.
This video gets even better when you realize it actually plays with the song’s themes of breaking up as two parties can’t seem to see things in the same way. Did you catch the scrolling quote? “I think I understand you but I don’t.”
“It was important to me that we didn’t add a layer of meaning that’s not already there,” explains frontman and co-director Damian Kulash. “We wanted to be able to have messages in there, but I didn’t want them going throughout the entire song in way that would make you feel like you were reading the whole time.”
OK Go’s new album Hungry Ghosts is expected on October 14.
