We Hate To Say It, But Your Mom Wasn’t Always Right…
Turns out that old people with tattoos actually look really rad, despite what your momma told you when you were younger.
Most of us had the warning from Mom: “Don’t get a tattoo. It’ll get all wrinkly and saggy when you’re older.” In fact, I can recall my best friend’s auntie talking about the small butterfly she got on her bum as a teenager turning into a “big bird” as she got older.
I think we all have these stories about old people with tattoos. But just like most things we learn when we’re younger, there’s always a different way to look at it.
Because These Old People With Tattoos Prove That “Cool” Doesn’t Age
You know, I think the biggest draw about tattoos is that they make you distinctive. This gallery of old people with tattoos is inspiring, because all of these seniors stand out in the crowd.
Good for each and every one of them. Let’s celebrate 15 tattoos for old people who really keep the cool alive.
Faded, Wrinkled, And Distorted? Not For These 15 Seniors!
1. So sincere
Not only are the tattoos wholesome and simple, but this man appears to be as earnest as they come. Is that a chin tattoo?
2. Seen some sh*t
You know how people ask you who in the world you’d have a drink with to hear the best stories? I bet this man could keep you compelled well into a smoky night in an underground tavern.
3. Art in ageing
Old people with tattoos come in all shapes and sizes. This woman’s skin is a lifetime of stories.
4. Victory of cool
Isobel Varley (May 21, 1937-May 11, 2015) is also the woman above. Her tattooed body has been legendary as she once held the Guinness World Record for the world’s most tattooed senior woman.
5. More Isobel
Look at that scalp! I love her piercings and her makeup. What a legendary babe.
6. Tattoo parlour for seniors
How sweet! Did you know we just wrote a post about the smallest hummingbird ever and it’s the cutest thing you’ll see today. Other than this woman’s tattoo.
7. Old people with tattoos are dope
This guy just looks like someone you want on your team.
8. An honour
Personally, I love the commitment level demonstrated by people with face tattoos. These dudes on the outside look pretty scary, but I get the feeling they’re softies… just like that friendly tattooes senior in the middle.
9. Young love
I don’t know if I want to learn the real story of this photo, because my mind/imagination is so elevated dreaming of what it could be.
10. More Isobel II
She’s gonna keep showing up because she’s that big a deal. Isobel Varley passed away on May 11 2015, and is said to have sat for over 500 hours to cover her body in ink.
11. Randy and Tony
Nothing like hangin’ out with the old guys at the tattoo parlour.
12. Tattoos when you get old are legend
This guy looks like a regular James Dean. Again… face tattoos = admirable.
13. Neck tattoo on Grandma
Plus this head scarf… and the PEARLS in her hair? This lady looks fit and fresh and I’m marvelling at the spider web tattoo on her elbow. I’d like to sit and listen to her talk for a couple hours.
14. So old fashioned
I like his sideburns… and his tattoos.
15. Best for last
The desire to stay young, forever stamped on an old woman’s lower back. The irony of the tattoo folded amidst her ageing skin… this one is the favourite.
See? Your mom may have been wrong about old people with tattoos. Maybe you should tell her, and the two of you can go get a tattoo together.
