Olivia Wilde to direct untitled, female-led Marvel film

All signs point to Spider-Woman

Sony Pictures has enlisted Olivia Wilde to helm a Marvel movie under its Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters banner. The currently untitled project will reportedly focus on a female-centric story, with heavy speculation that it could be Spider-Woman.

Wilde did little to quell that speculation.

Sony holds the rights to several Marvel characters, including Venom, Morbius, and a piece of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man that has appeared in a pair of Marvel’s Avengers films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wilde made her directorial debut with the 2019 comedy Booksmart. The yet-to-be-titled Marvel movie will be written by Booksmart writer Katie Silberman, with Amy Pascal producing.
