OMBIIGIZI share live video for ‘Ogiin,’ announce Canadian tour dates

Zoon (Daniel Monkman) and Status/Non-Status (Adam Sturgeon) have shared a live performance video as OMBIIGIZI, “Ogiin.” Alongside the release, they’ve announced their first ever tour dates.

Today’s live performance video is for a standout tune from their recently released debut album, Sewn Back Together. The video for “Ogiin” is captivating, with layered images of OMBIIGIZI performing the track in studio.

“For so many Indigenous cultures the Mother is who holds he fort, provides love and ultimate care,” a press release explains of the “Ogiin” video. “For both OMBIIGIZI’s Daniel Monkman and his father, they were at times removed from their Mother’s arms. This story is a reconciliation of their collective experiences of being denied that nurturance due to the residential school system.”

Watch the video for “Ogiin” below.

OMBIIGIZI’s forthcoming tour kicks off at Massey Hall on April 20th with labelmates Broken Social Scene. In fact, Sewn Back Together was recorded in collaboration with Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew. The 10-track OMBIIGIZI collection was recorded at the Tragically Hip’s Bathouse Recording Studio.

In addition to “Ogiin,” OMBIIGIZI are sure to play plenty more of their Sewn Back Together tracks out on tour.
