Phoebe Bridgers has shared “Chinese Satellite (Live from Sound City)” for Secretly Canadian‘s 25th anniversary charity campaign.

The new version of her Punisher standout was recorded live at Los Angeles’ Sound City. This new rendition sees Bridgers taking the ballad and slowing it down even further. Swapping out the percussion-driven instrumentals for harrowing acoustic guitar lines, “Chinese Satellite (Live from Sound City)” is a melancholic version of the tune.

The softer melodies makes Bridgers’ heartbreaking vocals and devastating lyrics stand out even further. Throughout “Chinese Satellite (Live from Sound City),” lines like “I want to believe/ Instead I look at the sky and I feel nothing” carry even more weight.

Today’s release comes as part of Secretly Canadian’s Singles Series. The compilation raises money for homeless youth in Bloomington, Indiana. Secretly Canadian is hoping to contribute a whopping $250,000 to an LGBTQ+-friendly homeless shelter, New Hope for Families.

“Chinese Satellite (Live from Sound City)” is the 20th release for the Singles Series. All-in-all, the collection will boast 25 tracks, featuring contributions from Bright Eyes, Goose, and more.

Phoebe Bridgers recently announced a 2022 tour, where you’ll hear live renditions that rival the likes of “Chinese Satellite (Live from Sound City).” Check out the North American dates below.
