Pixar introduces first lesbian character in new animated film ‘Onward’

Disney’s Pixar has introduced its first-ever lesbian character in a forthcoming animated movie called Onward.

The film revolves around two young elves, played by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, that find a wizard’s magical staff. Onward will feature a lesbian character named Officer Specter, who is a cyclops police officer that will be voiced by Lena Waithe.

Slate has confirmed that Specter identifies as queer, as she delivers a line that says, “My girlfriend’s daughter got me pulling my hair out.”

Kori Rae, a producer of the film, says that the introduction of the character “just happened.” “The scene, when we wrote it, was kind of fitting and it opens up the world a little bit, and that’s what we wanted,” Rae explains to Yahoo.
