Places to Get Your Bike Tuned in Toronto

The pavement has dried and bikes are emerging from their long winter hibernation. Let’s be honest, I’m not an expert on bikes, actually they terrify me, but I’ve pooled together all the opinions in the Indie88 office to present to you some of the best shops to get your bike tuned in Toronto. Whether you want to learn how to DIY, or leave it in the hands of the professionals, your whip could probably use some love before carrying you around the city for another season.

SWEET PETE’S | 1204 Bloor St. W, 517 Bloor St. W, 550 Bayview Ave.
Price: $60 ($50 for single speeds)

Sweet Pete’s is known for their friendly staff, quick turnaround, and wide selection. Opening up their third location at the Brick Works, Sweet Pete’s continues to be one of Toronto’s favourite bike shops. Stop in for the Sweet Pete’s tune for $60 ($50 for single speed bikes), and any additional services beyond the basic tune-up are 50% off. They also offer a full year of free services when you buy a new bike from them.

BIKE PIRATES | 1292 Bloor St. W
Price: Pay what you can

Bike Pirates is a DIY not-for-profit bike shop run entirely by cycle-loving volunteers. Their mission is to empower cyclists and make bicycles more accessible by teaching people how to fix their bikes, providing the tools and parts to do so. Drop in any time during business hours and have someone help you tune-up your ride.

BIKE SAUCE | 235 Broadview Ave.
Price: Pay what you can

Similar to Bike Pirates, Bike Sauce is a DIY repair and community hub in the east end. Swing by and get your bike ready for spring and summer with the help of knowledgeable volunteers.

BROADWAY CYCLE | 1222 Bloor St. W
Price: $60, $120, $250

If you’re not into the DIY idea, Broadway Cycle offers a few different tune-up options starting with the basic tune-up for $60 (the yearly check up), the pro tune for $120 (for the neglected bike), and the overhaul for $250 (the complete care package). Bonus: if you’re in the market for a new bike, they offer unlimited tune-ups for 5 years!

BIKE WORKS | Evergreen Brick Works
Price: Pay what you can

Bike Works at the Evergreen Brick Works runs on weekends in the spring and summer from 10am-4pm. The community bike space offers DIY repairs and tune-ups with the help of volunteers. They also hold bike workshops and rentals.

CYCLEPATH | Several locations in GTA
Price: $30

CyclePath is super convenient with 7 locations around the GTA. You can drop your bike off for a “pit stop” for $30 and have it back within a day or two. Be sure to check out your nearest location’s Facebook page as the Danforth shop does tune-up specials for Facebook friends.

Cycle Toronto is an organization that advocates for a safe cycling-friendly city for all. In the spring and summer they hold Tune-Up Tuesdays at different locations around the city with the help of local Toronto bike shops. Catch the first event next Tuesday (April 29) at the AGO with Urbane Cyclist and the following Tuesday (May 6) Sweet Pete’s will be at the College/Shaw Library helping with tune-ups and chatting with fellow cyclists. Check out their events calendar for more info.
