Post-punk band Kills Birds sing of betrayal on new single ‘Glisten’

LA-via-Windsor post-punk outfit Kills Birds have shared a new single, “Glisten.” Alongside the release, the band has announced several tour dates with the Foo Fighters throughout 2021 and 2022.

The new track comes from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, Married, out on November 12th via Royal Mountain Records and KRO records. “Glisten” serves as the follow-up to last month’s “Rabbit.” On “Glisten,” Kills Birds open with a melancholic sound before exploding into a rage-driven anthem. Frontwoman Nina Ljeti wails lines like, “Why don’t you love me? / Why don’t you want me?”

“This song is about loving the wrong people,” Kills Birds vocalist Nina Ljeti explains. “It was written after I experienced a profound betrayal, at the hands of a person who was unable to take accountability for their actions. The lyrics in the chorus (why don’t you love me) are directed at the person in question. In retrospect, they’re also questions I need to ask myself.”

“Glisten was written to kind of feel like water,” guitarist Jacob Loeb adds. “The chorusing, arpeggiating guitar melodies and the rolling, steadily intensifying rhythm section throughout the verse are meant to kind of create a sensation of floating in a river – like being gently lead by a force of nature that lures you somewhere turbulent and dangerous – the chorus with its angular, sharp and aggressive instrumentation.”
