Premier Doug Ford announces Toronto, Peel to enter another lockdown on Monday

Schools, before and after school programs, and child care programs will remain open

Premier Doug Ford has announced that as of Monday, November 23rd at 12:01 a.m., Toronto and Peel will move into another lockdown for a minimum of 28 days.

Health Minister Christine Elliot says there will be no indoor private gatherings, and anyone who lives alone may have close contact with one other household. “More needs to be done to limit community transmission and protect our most vulnerable,” Elliot says. “Lockdowns are a difficult but necessary step.”

Schools, before and after school programs, and child care will remain open.

Outdoor gatherings may have a maximum of 10 people. Restaurants, however must close outdoor dining and keep indoor dining closed, but may continue doing take out and delivery. Additionally, religious services and weddings must be restricted to 10 people indoors physically distanced, and 10 people outdoors.

Retail may stay open, but only for curtsied pickup or delivery. Exceptions to this rule include supermarkets; grocery stores; pharmacies; hardware stores; discount and big box retailers selling groceries; safety supply stores; beer, wine and liquor stores; and convenience stores. These places will need to operate at 50 per cent capacity.

Casinos, bingo halls, and other gaming establishments will be closed, and so will personal care services. Additionally, indoor sports and recreational facilities will be closed with limited exceptions.

“With the numbers rising rapidly in certain regions, we have to make the tough, but necessary decisions now to protect our hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes, and every person in this province,” Ford explains.

“We cannot afford a province-wide lockdown, so we are taking preventative action today by moving Toronto and Peel into Lockdown level restrictions and other regions into higher levels of restrictions,” Ford continues. “We need to take decisive action to stop the spread of this deadly virus.”
