Buckingham Palace has announced that His Royal Highness Prince Philip has died at the age of 99. A statement from the Royal Family reads “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

The Queen will reportedly sign off the final plans for the Duke’s funeral in the coming days.

In 1947, Prince Philip relinquished his Greek and Danish royal titles in order to marry Princess Elizabeth.

Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born on the island of Corfu in 1921.
