PUP guitarist Steve Sladkowski is the 2020 keeper of the Maple Leaf Forever Guitar

Past recipients include Cripps, Tragically Hip's Paul Langois, Royal Wood and more

PUP guitarist Steve Sladkowski is the owner of one outstanding guitar, as he has been declared the 2020 keeper of the Maple Leaf Forever guitar.

The Maple Leaf Forever guitar is an electric guitar that is one of two instruments made of wood sourced from a silver maple tree. The guitar is held by the Maple Leaf Forever Guitar Trust and is loaned to selected musicians for an entire year. Past recipients include Cripps, Tragically Hip’s Paul Langois, Royal Wood, Sam Roberts and Jason Berry.

The instrument was modeled after a 1944 Gibson J-45 built by Luthier Dave Fox. The electric one that Sladkowski received was built by Luthier Tom Bartlett. Sladkowski shared a gallery on social media that shows the detail and craft of the instrument, along with the announcement of being this year’s keeper. The guitar features a maple leaf inlay at the fifth fret.
