PUP share first new songs of 2021 ‘Waiting’ and ‘Kill Something,’ announce 2022 tour

Toronto punks PUP are back with their first new singles of the year, “Waiting” and “Kill Something.” Alongside the release, they’ve announced a 2022 tour.

Grammy Award winner Peter Katis produced both of the new songs. Fellow Canadian punk artist Kathryn McCaughey of NOBRO appears on “Waiting. That tune is a joyful, fun new tune with a heavy riff that’s sure to get you thrashing around.

“‘Waiting’ came about by smashing the heaviest riff Nestor could write with the simplest, most uplifting chorus I could write, just to see what would happen,” PUP frontman Stefan Babcock explains. “The results were very quintessentially PUP, in that the song is a flurry of darkness and anger through the joyous lens of four guys just happy to be here, four guys who don’t take themselves seriously enough to make music that doesn’t feel like fun, regardless of the subject matter.

“Kill Something,” on the other hand, is about Babcock’s dog, Moose. Moose loves to destroy his favourite things, and then gets sad once they’re destroyed. That tune is a more downtempo punk ballad.

PUP will be making a triumphant return to the stage across the U.S. and Canada next year. Tickets are available for pre-sale via Spotify Fans First and a Seated fan club pre-sale. Through that, $1 of each pre-sale ticket will go toward the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. General tickets go on sale this Friday.
