Queen honoured with official coin in the UK

Queen is the first rock band in the UK to have their own coin

Iconic rock band Queen can add another accolade to their list — their very own coin. The Royal Mint has announced the coin as the first installment in their “Music Legends” series, making Queen the first rock band to be represented on a coin in the UK.

“This is a big ‘who could have imagined it?’ moment for us,” said lead guitarist Brian May in a statement. “When we began as Queen, even the first rung of the ladder to recognition seemed remote and unreachable. To have our band recognized and our music celebrated in this way is very touching — a real honour.”

One side of the coin features Queen Elizabeth, while the other side of the coin features the band Queen’s name and instruments played by the band. The coin is available for £13 for the £5 brilliant uncirculated coin and £2,100 for the gold proof coin.
