You know when you find a song and you just can’t get enough? A track that you’ll start over before it’s even done because you never want it to end? The song that becomes the reason for the repeat button? Here I’ll tell you what song I’ve been listening to over and over again – new or old – and why you should check it out.
TWEENS – “BE MEAN”
You ever been in relationship with someone where you KNOW that the person is perfect for you, they’re really great, they’re super nice… and that’s the problem? This song from Cincinnati trash-poppers Tweens is for when you don’t want the nice guy – even if you WANT to want him. Just listen for the lyric: “Loving you is such a bore – there must be something wrong with me.” Being sweet is good and all, but it sure can get old. The whole message is made even more poignant by the screaming vocals from frontwoman Bridget Battle. Man oh man, does she ever want outta there.
Their self-titled debut full-length just came out a little while ago and if you need something to bang your head and party to you should hit it up. Give it a try with “Be Mean” – it’s three minutes of addictive dirty fun and you’ll know all the words by the third listen, so you can scream right along with it.
Still need convincing? This band just opened a tour with The Breeders because Kim Deal thinks they’re awesome.
It’s spring. Get out there and find someone mean.
