Report: New Mid-Size Live Music Venue Coming to Toronto’s East End

It’s been a tough couple years for Toronto’s live music scene with several great venues like The Silver Dollar, The Hoxton, and more shuttering operations. There may be some good news for local music fans, though, as it appears there’s a new venue in the works for Queen Street East.

CityNews reports that Live Nation could operate a yet-to-be-named, 2,700-person capacity venue located in the Champions Off-Track Betting building at Queen East and Kingston Road. By comparison, the Danforth Music Hall can hold 1,500 people, while Rebel can fit 3,700.

Councillor and Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council chair Josh Colle says the space would help bridge the gap between small venues and arenas like The Air Canada Centre.

“We’re great on the smaller end of venues and, of course, we’ve got the big Air Canada Centres,” Colle told CityNews. “But something like this that’s kind of more mid-range is often what’s identified by the industry as a gap in the Toronto venue kind of ecosystem.”

CityNews reports that no formal drawings of the proposed space have been completed at this time, and that Live Nation would only say “discussions are ongoing.”
