WayHome had a tough act to follow after last year’s super cryptic lineup tease, but two weeks ago fans started buzzing over a couple 360° videos teasing 2016 artists were released. Now that we have the full lineup, some of you can rest easy, but if you’re still up at night trying to figure out what it all means – we got ya. We got the clues exclusively revealed by the creators themselves, Puncture Design.
Behold, all of the WayHome 360° teaser video clues explained:
WayHome 360° Video Teaser – Part 1
If you precede the link on the wall with “www.wayhome” it takes you to video of a car seen in Kurt Vile’s “Pretty Pimping” video.
The bee themed calendar from the future references #futurehive – a popular hashtag used by Future’s fans.
Three frames depict (in order): The rock of Gibralter, a map of Lebanon with the letters LBL (Lebanese currency) and Images of Santa Fe. These frames reference song titles (“Gibralter” and “Santa Fe”) as well as the band’s name, Beirut (capital of Lebanon).
Canis Lupus is the scientific term for wolf. March is another word for parade. The words are lit by a spotlight in reference to their single “Shine A Light”.
The skull, flowers and colour of the plinth are all visual references to the Arcs’ current album cover.
Third Eye Blind
One of three floating eyeballs is covered in a sheet. The third eye is blind.
The letters X A spoken phonetically is EX EH. X Ambassadors often use the shortform XA in their marketing.
B is the second letter in the alphabet. 22=BB, NG = Not Good.
This structure is a deconstructed version of Rober Delong’s ‘X’ logo.
The massive laser pointer is a visual representation of Major Lazer.
The two wigs reference the matching haircuts of the members of Lucius
Patrick Watson composed the entire soundtrack to the movie C’est pas moi, je le jure! which is being shown on the wall.
The pendulum references FKA Twig’s song “Pendulum”.
Aluna Francis and George Reid are the names of the two members in the band. You can hear their last names spoken in an audio clue.
I <3 Y S B is a clue for "ILYSB (I Love You So Bad)", a song by Lany, audio also says "I love you so bad" as you walk through".
When you connect the dots in the constellation in the skylight, it spells M83
Audio clue from start of “Norf Norf” when you exit/enter the first and second video.
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats
The beer cans on the floor with SOB on them reference lyrics from Nathanial Rateliffs song SOB
360° Video Teaser – Part 2
A visual representation of the islands of the Bahamas can be seen in a puddle.
A voice can be heard saying ‘X’ three times and ‘8’ twice, referencing MØ’s song “XXX 88”.
The lily and snake match Lamontagne’s “Trouble” single artwork.
Matt & Kim
A heart with M+K inside it drawn in the sand.
The three lawn chairs are from the cover of Haim’s debut album, Days are Gone.
Three church-like structures can be seen here.
11:11 and 12:34 are shown on a digital clock face referencing the lyrics from the Arkells’ song “11:11”.
Gary Clark Jr.
May 3, 2001 was named Gary Clarke Jr. day in Austin, Texas.
Several glass animals can be seen in the forest.
A tombstone with RIP Your Ex Lover references Stars’ album Your Ex Lover is Dead.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Three little blue houses refers to their song “Little Blu House”.
Keys N Krates
Kn’K can be seen etched in a tree.
Femi Kuti & Positive Force
FK+PF can also be seen etched in a tree.
A Tribe Called Red
The hoops you float through are part of traditional aboriginal hoop dancing. A Tribe Called Red often tour with a hoop dancer.
A floating cabbage represents Mac’s album Salad Days. It is also adorned with his signature gap tooth.
Half Moon Run
A moon split in half with a running icon on its side.
A glow in the dark ‘P’ represents Phosphorescent.
