Earlier this month, Vancouver-based indie veterans Said The Whale released a deluxe edition of their 2021 record Dandelion. They shared with us a Said the Whale live session featuring Tyler Bancroft and an impressively lush houseplant. Check out Tyler performing the band’s new single “Return to Me.”
“Dandelions are everywhere,” Said The Whale’s Ben Worcester explains. “Some people see them as nothing but a garden weed, but to many others they are a beautiful flower whose bloom marks the first sign of spring. Not to mention they are edible from root to flower, and have many medicinal properties. They grow whether or not you want them to, so why not focus on the positives?”
The record was recorded with Hot Hot Heat’s Steve Bays producing. The deluxe version features new versions of the album’s tracks, including an intimate solo take on “99 to the Moon.” Tyler performed the track in this Indie88 live session.
The deluxe release also includes a remix of their single “Honey Lungs” done by producer/engineer and Illuminati Hotties frontwoman Sarah Tudzin.
Catch Said The Whale live as they hit the road this month. They have a tour date in Toronto on March 11 at Axis Club.
And if you want to check out some more Said the Whale live sessions, watch their Indie88 Black Box Session from 2018. The band last visited us when they released their 2019 album Cascadia. They performed “Wake Up” and “UnAmerican” live in our studio.
