Imagine a world where you can walk into Shoppers Drug Mart, stroll up to a pharmacist, and openly discuss marijuana strains. On top of that, the pharmacist gives you advice on what strain is best suited for your condition. Back pain? We’ve got a strain for that. Anxiety? Yup, we’ve got one for that too. Fun? Yes, we certainly have one for that sir.
On Tuesday, the insurance company announced that clients who are approved for medical marijuana coverage will be able to receive consultation with Shoppers pharmacists at Ontario patient care centres. Particularly in regards to the strains of medical marijuana and the variety of ways to consume it. From there, patients will be able to select their ongoing treatment, covered under a Manulife plan.
According to Nathalie Khalaf, director of pharmacy benefits at Manulife, this program is “the only one in the industry or in the market to offer member referrals to a health-care professional” and first to offer support throughout the process.
