Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss quits band

She'll leave after the release of 'The Centre Won't Hold,' which drops August 16

While gearing up for the release of their next album, Sleater-Kinney’s drummer Janet Weiss has announced that she is leaving the band.

Weiss, who teamed up with Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein in the mid-’90s, made the announcement this morning, revealing that she’s quitting the band after 24 years together. Their forthcoming album The Centre Won’t Hold, which drops on August 16th, will be the last to feature Weiss.

“The band is headed in a new direction and it is time for me to move on,” Weiss wrote in a statement. “I will never forget the heights we reached or the magnificent times Corin, Carrie and I shared. We were a force of nature.”
