Sobeys brings back lockdown bonus for frontline workers in areas with stay-at-home orders

It will run until the end of mandated lockdowns or until the company determines

Sobeys is reinstating a lockdown bonus for frontline workers in regions with renewed stay-at-home orders.

The bonus is a temporary program that offers a pay bump to employees for the amount of time that they work during the lockdown. The bonus ranges from $10 to $100 more per week, with an employee working a 40-hour week sitting at the higher end of the scale, earning a $100 bonus that week.

Sobeys Inc. has stated that the bonus is “the right thing to do,” according to CTV News, and that the pay bump will be implemented until the end of the mandated lockdowns or until the company determines based on “ever-changing circumstances.”

The pay bump applies to frontline workers at Sobeys Inc. locations including Sobeys, FreshCo, Farm Boy, Foodland, Voila by Sobeys, and retail support centre employees.

Select IGA locations in locked down areas in Quebec will also apply the bonus.
