For six years now, SoundCloud has been the destination for music lovers everywhere to come together and share music that they love and even produce and make themselves. SoundCloud made waves today when they announced that they will start incorporating advertisements, allow artists and labels to collect royalties, and will eventually roll out a paid subscription service which would allow users to skip the ads all together.
With over 175 million users worldwide, it’s mildly shocking that the company has been getting on this long without advertising. By providing a YouTube-like platform for audio, the ads will run alongside the audio and revenue will be distributed to the content providers.
