Spoon share cover of The Beatles’ ‘Christmas Time (Is Here Again)’

Spoon has shared a cover of The Beatles’ 1967 track, “Christmas Time (Is Here Again).”

The band covered the track for Spotify Singles: Holiday Edition 2021. This year’s Holiday Edition marks the fifth annual collection. It boasts a whole slew of covers and originals from genre-spanning artists. Today (November 17th) we’ve gotten an entry from Spoon, which is their take on “Christmas Time (Is Here Again).”

“Recording ‘Christmas Time (Is Here Again)’ was a group effort that pulled us away from rehearsals and quickly sent us down a turbulent path of what you might call the Christmas spirit,” frontman Britt Daniel explains. “And it’s our song with the most band members doing vocals ever – pretty sure I’m counting four.”

At the end of October, Spoon announced their tenth studio album, Lucifer On The Sofa, out February 11th, 2022. To celebrate, they shared a video for “The Hardest Cut.” All ten songs on the album were recorded in their hometown, Austin. It marks the first set of songs that the quintet recorded there in over a decade.

Similarly, Spoon’s cover of “Christmas Time (Is Here Again)” was recorded at Jim Eno’s HiFi studio in Austin.

Speaking of the album, Daniel explains:

“It’s the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton.”

Lucifer on the Sofa sees Spoon channeling their live energy into the album. It’s an intense, yet intimate collection, bottling the physical thrill of a band ripping through a performance.
