Spoon share video for new single ‘The Hardest Cut,’ announce upcoming album ‘Lucifer On The Sofa’

Spoon have officially announced their tenth studio album, Lucifer On The Sofa, out February 11th, 2022 via Matador. As part of the announcement, they’ve shared a video for their new single, “The Hardest Cut.”

Today’s release marks the first of ten songs for the album, all of which were recorded in their hometown Austin. “The Hardest Cut” is a scorching single boasting detuned guitars and gritty vocals. It was the first song written by Spoon frontman Britt Daniel. It was co-written with Alex Fischell. The accompanying video stars Spoon, as they tear through a performance at a peculiar house party.

“I spent a lot of 2018 and 2019 listening to ZZ Top,” Daniel explains of the inspiration behind the track.

Lucifer on the Sofa sees Spoon channeling their live energy into the album. It’s an intense, yet intimate collection, bottling the physical thrill of a band ripping through a performance.

“It’s the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton,” frontman Britt Daniel explains.

Spoon and Mark Rankin (Adele, Queens of the Stone Age) co-produced Lucifer on the Sofa. The album also boasts contributions from Dave Fridmann and Justin Raisen. Edel Rodriguez created the captivating artwork. There is an amazing vinyl format in multiple colour variants, including an opaque orange and black pattern.
