St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein’s film will debut at Sundance

'The Nowhere Inn' premieres in 2020

A new film from St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein will premiere at Sundance Film Festival next year.

The festival released its lineup for 2020, and The Nowhere Inn will make is first screening. The feature-length film, which is directed by Bill Benz, unites Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein and St. Vincent star Annie Clark, who has created a meta-documentary.

“When St. Vincent sets out to make a documentary about her music, the goal is to both reveal and revel in the unadorned truth behind her on-stage persona,” the film’s description explains. “But when she hires a close friend to direct, notions of reality, identity, and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre.”
