Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich to play David Berman tribute show

The event will take place on January 4th

Pavement members Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich are set to perform at a David Berman tribute show in Portland.

Berman, who was the frontman of the Silver Jews, died by suicide earlier this year at age 52. Malkmus and Nastanovich were in the Silver Jews with Berman at the very beginning of their formation, and all three of them were living together in Hoboken when the band was started.

Now, according to JamBase, Malkmus and Nastanovich will perform at Bike Chain Rain: A Birthday Tribute To David Cloud Berman at Portland’s Bunk Bar. The event will take place on January 4th, which marks what would have been Berman’s 53rd birthday.

The event will also see performances from former Silver Jews member William Tyler, Spinanes’ Rebecca Gates, Clay Cole, Franklin Bruno, Oed Ronnie, and a Certain Smile. Hosted by rock critic Douglas Wolk, the tribute will also feature writers like Kevin Sampsell, Chelsey Johnson, Jon Raymond, and more.
