Steve Lacy shares video for new single ‘Sunshine (feat. Fousheé)’

Steve Lacy has shared a video for his new collaborative single with Fousheé, “Sunshine.”

The track comes from his forthcoming album, Gemini Rights, out this Friday, July 15th. “Sunshine” is a dreamy, guitar-driven tune with wavering melodies and silky harmonies from Lacy and Fousheé. Ultimately, it’s a duet about two exes running into each other having an awkward conversation.

Directed by rubberband, the accompanying video sees Lacy and Fousheé performing along to the track live before being lifted into the sky on a crane.

Not much has been released about the forthcoming album, so you’ll have to hang tight for a tracklist and possible guests.

Gemini Rights is set to serve as Steve Lacy’s first new album since his 2019 debut, Apollo XXI. Since then, he shared his 2020 compilation album, The Lo-Fis, and hopped on Ravyn Lenae’s “Skin Tight.”

In addition to “Sunshine,” Gemini Rights features the previously released “Mercury” and “Bad Habit.”

“Mercury” sees Steve Lacy weaving in and out of genres with ease. He carefully channels the sounds of Brazilian bossa nova, bass-driven funk, and R&B. With dreamy strings, captivating bass lines, and stunning vocals, the self-produced track is a perfect return for Lacy.

“Bad Habit,” on the other hand,” is a dreamy new tune with rollicking instrumentals, as Steve Lacy laments over not making a move with someone. With hazy guitars, catchy vocal lines, and driven percussion, you’ll find yourself revisiting this laidback tune again and again.

Lyrically, Lacy delivers lines like, “I bite my tongue, it’s a bad habit/ Kinda mad that I didn’t take a stab at it/ Thought you were too good for me, my dear/ Never gave me time of day, my dear/ It’s okay, things happen for reasons that I think are sure.”
