Dan Mangan has just released his fifth album, More or Less. The powerful album revolves around witnessing birth and the process of rebirth, and explores all of the unanswerable questions in life.
“More sparce. Less meticulous,” Mangan explains in a statement. “More kids. Less time. More direct. Less metaphore. More discovery. Less youth. More warmth. Less chaos.”
Listen to the beautifully minimal tracks below.
After taking a six-year break from touring, Mangan began to understand himself as an artist in ways he’d never experienced before. Politics became more dystopic, he had settled down, and wasn’t a part of a new generation anymore, so he had to learn to write about warmth, being in love, and the fear of losing your youth. “More or less, I wrote about myself,” Mangan explains.
Check out his self-reflective new tracks live at the Danforth Music Hall on January 31st.
