Stream: Hayley Williams drops surprise sophomore album ‘FLOWERS for VASES / descansos’

It marks the follow-up to 'Petals for Armor'

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams has dropped her surprise sophomore album FLOWERS for VASES / descansos.

Less than a year ago, Williams shared her first-ever solo release with Petals for Armor. Now, she’s made her return with the 14-track project, which features “My Limb,” a song that she hand-delivered to a fan, encouraging them to leak it.

The new collection was recorded and performed by herself at her Nashville home, and it was produced by Daniel James. Each of the 14 tracks embrace their own narrative, while contributing to the greater theme and sound of the album, as Williams takes more of a holistic approach to this LP. From the melancholic acoustic opening of “First Thing To Go” to the intimate, slow-building piano-based closer “Just A Lover,” FLOWERS for VASES / descansos truly takes the listener on a journey through its 14 songs.

“This isn’t really a follow-up to Petals for Armor,” Williams explained of FLOWERS for VASES / descansos in an Instagram Story. “If anything, it’s a prequel, or some sort of detour between parts 1 and 2 of Petals. The meaning of the album as a whole is maybe entirely different from diving into each song in particular. For me, there’s no better way to tackle these individual subjects other than holistically.”
